The ceaseless destruction of naturally evolved ecosystems and the increasing levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is the main cause of Climate Change.
There is a need for conscious effort to reduce carbon emission, and or replenish via carbon sinks to offset the emission. Around the world, this has become a cause for great concern and governments and industries are working to establish standard practices which can be deployed by all to mitigate the crisis
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions.
The GHG Protocol, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change.
The GHG Protocol Initiative arose when WRI and WBCSD recognized that an international standard for corporate GHG accounting and reporting would be necessary in light of evolving climate change policy. Together with large corporate partners such as British Petroleum and General Motors, WRI introduced a report called, ‘Safe Climate, Sound Business,’ that identified an action agenda to address climate change, among which included the need for standardized measurement of GHG emissions., is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change.
